Winter 24: A Month in Texas

Road Trip to the Angle Inlet

It's Up There...

Early in October I read an article in my daily news feed about the northernmost point in the lower 48 where you could actually get a burger.  Since I had been planning a trip to the national parks in Florida for spring of 2024, and I knew we'd be seeing the southernmost point, I knew we had to go.   And this is a very interesting geographical area of the US.  Angle Inlet is land locked in Canada, so the only way to get there by car is to go through Canada. You could get there by boat and stay in MN/USA.  Check it out on a map.

Our target was Jerry's, about six hours from our home in central Minnesota.  We crossed over into Canada in Roseau, showed our passports and answered questions about where we lived (he actually asked "Where  in Minnesota?"), then entered back into the US at Angle Inlet.   It was interesting because our GPS on our phone, while we had service, changed to kilometers, then back. There's no border patrol there and you actually check in with customs at a kiosk in the bar.  That was a first.

After sharing a burger, we headed south to Warroad for the night.  We passed through Canada again, then reentered the US at the border crossing off 12.  Imagine Tim's delight when I told him we could also stop in at Lake of the Woods Brewing in Warroad.

The next day we stopped for a break in Brainerd, then continued south.

We made a quick stop at Snarky Loon Brewing in Jenkins, MN and were home by late afternoon.  I love a good road trip.
