Winter 24: A Month in Texas

Fass Brewing

Fass Brewing: Conroe, TX

Timewave, a Hazy IPA and Saphir Pils

During our winter 2024 travel we stopped in Mongomery, Texas for a few days to visit with some friends/former colleagues.  Not far from us was Fass Brewing, in Conroe, TX.  Fass is downtown, in the historic Gentry Building.  After the fire of February 1911, the City of Conroe mandated that all new buildings must be constructed with solid brick. The Gentry Building was constructed that Fall, making it the first to be built after the fire and the oldest building in Downtown Conroe.  While it was fairly quiet, we had a friendly beertender we chatted with as she prepped some pizzas.  Atmosphere gets a 3.

Fass brews mostly Düsseldorf style taps, so not necessarily our jam.  With 14 taps, there is quite a few to select from.  I had the lightest one I could find, a Saphire Pils, while Tim had the Timewave, a Hazy IPA which he rated 4/5 on Untappd.  Selection gets a 3.

Fass has some individual branding for their beer, and in my opinion not leveraged nearly enough.  Interesting selection of merchandise however limited.  That trend continues on their website, where there is limited information, but the images there are very nice.  Same for their Instagram - simple imagery.  Stickers were free.  Branding gets a 3.

Price - $14 for my pint and Tim's smaller pour (Tim’s glass was way cooler and he ended up buying one) - which is average for the area.  Price gets a 3.
