Waldmann Brewery: St. Paul, MN
Two EDEL-HELLES |
Just around the corner from Bad Weather Brewing, we found Waldman Brewery, situated in a quaint setting older house with a ton of history. In fact, Waldman claims that they are the "oldest surviving saloon building in the Twin Cities" with a tagline "Established in 1857, reestablished in 2017". They have a great outdoor space, and the indoor space is really the rest of the house, with sitting areas throughout the house. Ambiance gets a 3.
Following the classic German styles, use as much traditional malt and noble hop varieties as we can source, then add some heritage inspired malts & hops for that New World experience. The result — a modern interpretation of classic styles, informed by tradition and place. As a result, Waldman had only eight taps at the time of the visit. We both had the the Eldel-Hellles, a Lager I found refreshing but still a bit heavy, Tim rated 3.25 on Untappd. Selection gets a 2.
As for branding, Waldman has a great story, a decent website with nice visuals featuring their history as well as their food. I did not find any merchandise, and beers are not individually branded. Their simple sticker was free. Branding gets a 2.
We paid $7.50 for a pint (might have been more than a pint), which is above average for the cities. Price gets a 2.
