Winter 24: A Month in Texas

Mineral Springs Brewing

Mineral Springs Brewery: Owatonna, MN

Wincl Wheat Ale and Sweer Sour
On our way back to the cities after attending a 50th Anniversary celebration in west central Iowa, we stopped in at Mineral Springs Brewing.  It's just across from Kaplan's Woods Park, about two miles from the springs that inspiried the brewery's name.  The father of one of the servers was quite passionate about the brewery, and how the owner's honored the history of the area with the decor as well as the names of the brews.  Outside the main taproom there are six igloos for rent at a very reasonable price of $10 for 90 minutes.  Each igloo is themed, from Owatonna Proud to SKOL!.  Ambiance gets a 4.

MSB has a fairly robust selection at 17taps at the time of our visit, with a wide variety of brews.  I had the Wencl Wheat Ale with a nice, mellow wheat flavor, and Tim had the Sweer Sour (Cherry), which he rated as a 4.25/5.  Selection gets a 4.

Mineral Springs does not have individual imagery for any of their brews, which seems like a lost opportunity when compared to the care the team takes with naming the brews.  Instead they rely heavily on their main MSB logo on their crowlers and most of their merchandise.  Their website has a good start, but lacking in imagery.  Their Instagram account is fairly active, and does have a decent amout of images featuring their beer and food truck offerings. The sticker was $2.  Overall, a decent start to their branding with several opportunities for growth.  Branding gets a 2.

The cost of a pint of the Wheat Ale was $6 and the 10oz pour of the sour was $5.  Price gets a 4, very good prices indeed.
