Winter 24: A Month in Texas

The Big Texan Brewery

The Big Texan Brewery; Amarillo, TX

Raspberry Wheat

You may be familiar with The Big Texan and the 72 oz. challenge (we first heard of it on Man vs. Food), and when we found out we would be in Amarillo we thought we had to stop in just for the touristy, kitschy element, but then we found out they actually brewed their own beer!  That's when we made plans to stop in at The Big Texan Brewery.

While The Big Texan is indeed big, the sitting area allocated for those only interested in the beer is quite small, consisting of bar seating about 12 in the main entry of the restaurant.  When we arrived the bar was full, with just one empty seat and we ended up sitting on a bench off the side.  While you do get to see anyone playing the gun game in the same area, it's just not quite a brewery vibe.  Ambiance gets a 1.

The brewery has a pretty small selection, with a decent variety.  I had the Honey Blonde  Lager which I thought was pretty good and kind of strong.  Tim had the Raspberry Wheat.  He rated it 4 out of 5 in his Untapped App.  Selection gets a 2.

There are no individual images nor branding for any of the taps. The Big Texan has a ton of merchandise for the restaurant, but nothing for the beer.  I was shocked I could find a brewery sticker priced at just $1.79.   Their website does mention the brewery, and while they do have an Instagram site and it is somewhat active, you will only find mentions of the brewery in the story section.  Branding for the brewery gets a 1.

My pint was $5.50, while Tim's was $6.   Price gets a 3.   The Big Texan is definitely a place you have to see at least once - we're glad we stopped!
