Winter 24: A Month in Texas

Dodge City Brewing

Dodge City Brewing; Dodge City, KS

Mango Compromise, an American Pale Wheat

On our way south for the winter 2022, in an attempt to outrun a cold front and snow, we ended up in Dodge City, Kansas.  Our intent was to stay in our RV, but Mr. Winter had other plans.  We found a decent hotel to stay at and by chance, we found Dodge City Brewing.

Dodge City is just a block of the main street with all of the cowboy touristy stuff, in a recently renovated building, with five garage doors lining two of the walls.   I didn't see any outdoor seating, but if all the doors were opened on a nice summer day, it's essentially all outdoor seating.  We sat at the bar where the friendly owner helped us out with a few samples and then served us.  They had just opened, but after a few minutes a few of the locals showed up. Ambiance gets a 3.

The brewery has decent selection, with a wide variety of flavors.  I had the 1872 Pilsner, a  Pre-Prohibition Lager which I thought was pretty good.  Tim had the Mango Compromise, an American Pale Wheat made with 168 pounds of mango puree.  He rated it 4 out of 5 in his Untapped App.  Selection gets a 3.

There are no individual images/branding except for the 1872 Pilsner, although their logo is one of the coolest and most relevant I've seen. They charged $1 for stickers.  They had a few t-shirts and some hats as far as merchandise.  Their website is pretty basic, and while they do have an Instagram site and it is somewhat active, there is no real design strategy.  Branding gets a 2.

My pint was $5.50, while Tim's was $6.  Pretty average for the area.  Price gets a 3.

Overall we found dodge City Brewery to be a nice find after a long day of stressful driving.  And if distilleries are your thing, there is the Boot Hill Distillery just down the street.
