Winter 24: A Month in Texas

Glacier Distilling Company

Glacier Distilling Company; Coram, MT

We don't normally go to distilleries - but this one looked pretty interesting, along Hwy 2, not far from where were staying in West Glacier.  For our first try at a distillery, we stopped at Glacier Distilling Company.

Glacier Distilling is just south of the Glacier National Park entrance, with a nice indoor space as well as a great covered patio area.  Very friendly greeting, and super attentive wait staff.  Ambiance gets a 3.

The distillery has a fairly decent selection,  Selection gets a 3.   I tried the Huckleberry Liquor, the Pear “eau de vie”, the Hungry Horse Rum (a spiced rum) and the Mule Kick (an infusion of fresh jalapenos, garlic and black peppercorn in a house distilled rye whiskey).  Now I don't normally like whiskey, but I do like spicy drinks.  I had a 5oz pour of the Mule Kick on ice - the heat forces you to sip!  Tim had the Glacier Dew (a vodka), the North Fork (a traditional American style whiskey), Fireweed (a cherry bourbon) and Bear Proof (single malt whiskey).  When it came to having a pour, he told the waitress he likes Old Fashioneds, and she recommended the Trapline Rock & Rye, sweetened with honey and flavored with orange and aromatic spices.  It was like an Old Fashioned in a bottle!

There is no individual branding, although they do have interesting names related to the area.  They charged $2 for stickers.  Their website is visually appealing, with nice imagery, however limited information.  It doesn't show any live or special events.  Branding gets a 2.

A flight was only $5, and 5oz pour was $5 as well.  Most of the 750ml were between $20-30, and we're really not sure if that's good or bad.  I believe it's about average, so Price gets a 3.

I think we'll try other distilleries - sipping samples is much less filling than beer - maybe tequila next time?
