Winter 24: A Month in Texas

Gideon's Brewing Company

Gideon's Brewing Company; Bismark, ND

Our first overnight stop for our Glacier NP adventure, we stopped in Bismarck, ND, where we found Laughing Sun Brewing Co. just east of downtown (view our post about Laughing Sun), and in the spot downtown where Laughing Sun used to be, we found Gideon's Brewing.

Gideon's definitely has the more 'downtown, hipster' vibe vs. the larger warehouse vibe many newer breweries (or established breweries that have upgraded their facilities).  Very friendly bartender.  Ambiance gets a 3.

Gideon's has a decent selection, with many IPAs and Ales.  I had the Golden Honey Lager, a lighter brew, very refreshing.  Tim had the  White Chocolate Raspberry Sour Ale, which had a very unique flavor and essentially you could taste everything in the name. Tim gave it a 4.75 out of 5 in his Untapped app.

There is no individual beer branding, although they do have interesting names.  They have limited selection for merchandise.  They were all out of stickers.  Their website is visually appealing, with nice imagery.   I like that they show you the beers 'on deck'.  Their glasses have an image of a lion (Gideon as a military leader, stopped the mouths of lions), however the eyes of the lion don't appear correctly - the lion looks more like a ghost, if that's possible. Branding gets a 2.

Pricing was very strange - not listed on their board.  My taps was $5.50 - which is average, however Tim's Sour was $7.34 - the most we've ever seen for a pint.  Price gets a 2.

Since Gideon's is still growing, there's a lot of room for improvement!
