Voyageur Brewing Company; Grand Marias, MN

The most common way to get to Isle Royale National Park from Minnesota is a 90 minute ferry from Grand Portage, MN.  And since the ferry boards at 8:10am, the only accommodations in the area - for at least for 30 miles, is the Grand Portage Casino and Lodge.  Sitting down for a quick bite Tim discovered a brew from Voyageur Brewing Company out of Grand Marias, MN.  Since we would be driving through there on our way home, we knew we had to stop just for one!

I had a pint of the Coureur Des Bois, a saison, which was very tasty.  Tim had the SHT (Superior Hiking Trail) Sour and really enjoyed it giving it a 4.75 out of 5 in his Untapped App.   We wanted to stay for another, but we had a 1 1/2 hour drive to get to our next stop in Two Harbors. 

We were able to grab a seat outdoors right away - looks like the place gets pretty busy even on a Sunday afternoon.  There was a ton of construction all along 61 - from Duluth to Grand Portage, and including right in front of Voyageur.  Once completed, you can see the lake from the deck.  Pretty decent for ambiance.

There is no individual beer branding/logos, however they do cleverly use the primary logo, with different colors for each of the brews.  Their merch was very interesting - nice selection.  We started shopping even before we were seated.  The brew names are very clever, and the individual descriptions are very well written.  And since they have an ongoing blog of their beer releases, you can see how their approach has evolved over time.  They have a nicely designed website, featuring great images of the food they offer.

We definitely enjoyed our brief stop at Voyageurs (the brewery and the National Park!), and plan on a much longer stay on the Superior coast in the not-too-distant future!
