Winter 24: A Month in Texas

Southern Roots Brewing Company - updated 2023

Southern Roots Brewing Company; Waco, TX

This original post was from November 2020.
Our first stop in Texas heading north was Waco. While most people were thinking I was excited to visit Magnolia Farms (which indeed I did), we were both excited to try out some breweries.  Our first visit, Southern Roots Brewing Company.  I had The H.O.T. Blonde, a lightly honeyed Blonde Ale ("no matter what time it is you can always schedule a date with a H.O.T. Blonde").  Tim had the Surfside, an American Wheat Ale.  While both were good, nothing stood out as far as taste.

2023 update - we revisited Southern Roots during our Winter 2023 travels.  After sampling one or two taps, we landed on - HOT Blonde and Surfside, without realizing these were the exact taps we had in 2020.

The indoor space had ample seating, with an interesting wall decor.  The outdoor area was expansive, nice with various yard games.  We don't mention food very often, but the smell of the pizza and garlic bread baking on site was wonderful!

As for branding, the primary logo is used quite a bit, and the naming of the brews is consistent with the Southern Roots theme.  This is one of the few places we've seen that specifically advertises group gatherings such as parties and work events.  They are well set up for that.

From a price perspective, pints were $6, pretty average.
