Winter 24: A Month in Texas

Belfry Wood-Fired Grill & Brewery

Belfry Wood-Fired Grill & Brewery; Cottonwood, AZ
Blueberry Wheat and Batty Blonde

While staying about an hour north of Phoenix in Camp Verde, we visited Belfry Wood-Fired Grill & Brewery.  Belfry is in “The Green Church on the Corner”, a cornerstone in the history of Cottonwood since the 1920s.  Upstairs is a beautiful bar, with amazing décor.  It was just after 2pm on a Friday so a late lunch crowd.  There is outdoor seating however they were not serving outside at the time.  The taproom/bar area is below the restaurant/bar.  Atmosphere gets a 3.

Belfry had 12 taps, with a decent variety of flavors.  I had the Batty Blonde in one of the coldest glasses we’ve ever enjoyed.  Very tasty. Tim had the Blueberry Wheat which he rated a 3.75/5 in Untapped.  Selection gets a 3.

As for Branding - this one is difficult as the vibe is so different from any brewery we've been to and the upstairs is so different from the downstairs.   Their website is fairly robust, and their Instagram site has some decent imagery, but could use an overall strategy.   We didn't see any merchandise except for some koozies downstairs, and I don't recall if they even had stickers.  Branding gets a 2.

We paid $5 for the blonde, and $7 for blueberry wheat, a bit high but average for the area.  Price gets a 3.

We stopped at Belfry after 3 hours of hiking - rewarded ourselves with their Brussels with goat cheese, bacon, walnuts and balsamic vinegar - one of the best bites we’ve ever had - EVER.

A great find in Cottonwood - we hope to be back!
