Winter 24: A Month in Texas

Able Baker Brewing Company

Able Baker Brewing Company: Las Vegas, NV

Blueberry Vanilla Blam Blam, a sour, and Calutron Girl, a mango Hefeweizen

Able Baker Brewing Company is a located in the growing art district in Las Vegas.  In fact there are a lot of breweries in this area, and this is another one I selected because of the logo on their website, and the story of their name as well as the duck.  For real.  This location has both inside and outside seating, right off the street.  We had a chatty and engaging bartender.   Ambiance gets a 4.

Able Baker has 34 taps, one of the most we've seen.  They have about 20 of their own brews, in addition to guest taps.  I had the Calutron Girl, a mango Hefeweizen and it was one of the tastiest beers I’ve ever had.  Tim had the Blueberry Vanilla Blam Blam, a sour he rated as 4.5/5 in Untapped.  Selection gets a 4.

Able Baker has one of the best websites I've ever evaluated.  With the story of their name (named after the first two atomic bombs detonated at the Nevada Test Site. These two test explosions were codenamed after the military’s phonetic alphabet of the time, making them tests “Able” and “Baker”) and of course the duck.  Legend has it, that a duck was the only animal to survive the Atomic tests conducted at the Nevada Test Site. That duck, bested the blasts, wandered off and waddled into history, becoming forever known as … the “Atomic Duck”.  Just love how the imagery is leveraged online and on their very robust Instagram site, in their merchandise, and of course their sticker, which was $1.

My 16oz Colutron Girl was only $4, the sour was served in a 14.2 oz glass and was $7.  Again, we’re seeing this trend of charging more for the sours.  Price gets a 3.

Overall a great location, with really interesting branding and back story.
