Winter 24: A Month in Texas

Winter 2022: White Sands National Park

Alamogordo, New Mexico

Oliver Lee Memorial State Park

One of the highest recommendations I've ever read was for Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, and our brief stay proved those reviews to be accurate.  Huge sites, and clean, updated facilities.  Here is a short video of our campsite.  The sunset our first night was incredible!  It was a sunset that seemed to last forever, and kept giving off better and better colors.

Oliver Lee has a few great hiking options right from the park, allowing incredible views of the entire valley, with the San Andres mountain range in the distance.

While in the area, we took a day trip to Cloudcroft, a quaint town tucked away in the Lincoln National Forest.  We also stopped in at Picacho Peak Brewing in Alamogordo.

White Sands National Park
Our third National Park of our 2022 travels brought us to White Sands, which was promoted to a National Park in December 2019.  White Sands is the world's largest gypsum dune field, and yes, the sand is white.  Very white.

Tim made a short video of our time in the park, including a sunset walk/talk with a park ranger.

Our time in the area was enjoyable, and the weather completely lovely for mid-January!  Up next for us during our Winter 2022 travel: Southern Arizona.
